News > Suburbs of the Week: Castle Hill, Seven Hills and Blacktown Skip Bins
Blacktown is in the western suburbs of the Sydney metropolitan area, situated on the Cumberland Plain. Blacktown is both a suburb and a local government area and is approximately 35 kms from the Sydney central business district. Blacktown City council is responsible for one of the most heavily populated regions of Sydney with more than 307,000 residents (according to the 2010 census). With such a large density of residents comes a broad choice of suppliers of skip bins in Blacktown and from surrounding suburbs and local government areas. Skip bin companies that operate in Blacktown that want to place skip bins on the councils public property need to hold a council licence to do so.
Castle Hill is a north western suburb of in our Sydney Skip Bins delivery area located in the Baulkham Hills local government area some 31 kilometres from the central business district. Baulkam Hills council is known as the Hills Shire Council. The council has a skip bin permit policy to protect the interests of the residents should the skip hire become a source of issue between neighbours. The bulk of Castle Hill residents own private vehicles and travel to work using these. The best transport irony in Sydney is that Castle Hill was once served by the a railway that was closed in 1932. There have been various plans to build railway lines through the suburb but none have ever progressed past the proposal stage and none have ever got as far as needing a skip bin.
Seven Hills is in the local government area of Blacktown City Council and is located some 34 kms from Sydney's central business district to the west or north west. Even though Seven Hills is well serviced by skip bin companies most of them are located outside of the suburb. This is somewhat of a contradiction because Seven Hills is home to a Waste and Recycling Transfer Station that is located at Powers Road in Seven Hills nestled with an industrial area that is then other wise surrounded by residential areas. The exception to prove the rule is Peaky's Skip Bins located in station street. Blacktown City Council have a skip bin permit policy that requires that skip bin companies operating in the area hold a licence if they are going to place their skip bins on council property like the road or the naturestrip.
